Shades of Jade

Shades of Jade is a specialist pounamu store in the centre of Māwhera / Greymouth, showcasing 100% genuine West Coast pounamu. Established in 2000, it stocks locally sourced stone carved into pendants, earrings, rings, bracelets and sculptures, in traditional forms such as toki and roimata as well as contemporary designs.

The store’s speciality is flower jade, a rich green pounamu with gold or white markings that is found close to Greymouth, and one of the most distinctive varieties you can see on the West Coast. The stone comes from West Coast rivers, and the work is by local carvers.

Shades of Jade is run by Catherine and Warren, who are known for their knowledge of the stone, the carvers and the tikanga surrounding pounamu, and for taking time to help each visitor find a piece that suits them. Pieces can also be bought through their online shop.
