Carved in Stone (Brittany)

Carved in Stone is the pounamu studio of Brittany Lissington (née Surgenor), who hand carves every piece from her family workshop in Hokitika, a short distance from the pounamu-bearing Hokitika River. All of her stone is sourced locally from the western side of Te Waipounamu, the South Island.

Brittany grew up in the heart of New Zealand’s pounamu country and followed her father into the family greenstone business in 2012, supplying wholesale and retail customers across New Zealand and overseas. She now carves under her own name while raising a family on the West Coast, and her designs draw on the traditional forms of Māori jewellery, weapons and tools, shaped to bring out the natural beauty of each stone.

Her range includes pounamu pendants, earrings and mere, along with smooth pendants designed especially for tamariki and a few less common pieces such as pounamu guitar picks. She also creates corporate gifts and awards. Work is sold through her online store, which ships within New Zealand and internationally.
