About
Hokitika Craft Gallery on Tancred Street shows the work of more than 80 New Zealand artists and makers, around 60 percent of it made locally on the West Coast. Pounamu jewellery, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets and pieces set in silver, sits alongside pottery, wood, glass, weaving, paintings and prints.
The gallery began as a makers’ co-operative and reopened in October 2019 under Juergen and Monika Schacke, with several former co-operative members still showing their work there. It is open seven days, with shorter hours on Sundays.
