About
ORA Gallery is a contemporary New Zealand art and design gallery on Allen Street in Te Aro, just off Courtenay Place in the heart of Wellington’s cultural quarter. It represents a diverse range of artists and craftspeople from around the motu, and its pounamu collection sits alongside original paintings, prints, sculpture, glass, ceramics and jewellery.
The pounamu range includes pendants, earrings and rings in traditional and contemporary forms, such as roimata and porowhita, in stone varieties including inanga. Because the collection is constantly being updated, what is in store changes regularly, and much of it can also be browsed and bought online.
ORA was established in Te Whanganui-a-Tara in 2004 and is a locally owned small business. Its owner, Marissa, joined as gallery manager in 2006 and bought the gallery in 2011, and the close-knit team works directly with its artists, which means staff can often share the story behind a piece. Gift vouchers are available both in store and online.
