About Little Shop of Taonga

Little Shop of Taonga is a whānau business in Kaiapoi, North Canterbury, run by Dion and Jade Hancy. Dion designs and carves the taonga, with a focus on functional pieces such as ripi pounamu, small blades that can be used when gathering kai, rongōā or weaving materials, alongside toki, hei matau and larger carvings. Jade plaits the cords and kupenga and runs the business side.

Many of their materials are gathered with their tamariki, and the range also includes work by other local makers. Commissions and restringing are available, and the small gallery beside their home is open by appointment.
