My name is Blaine Te Rito.

I descend from Kahungunu, Ngapuhi, Te Rarawa, English and Irish lineage. I have been involved in Maori arts most of my life, both performing and visual. I focus on traditional carving in wood, bone and pounamu. I create commissioned artworks for individuals and corporates, pieces for local and international collectors and assist with Maori community based projects.

Every carving I do is unique and captures the whakaaro (thoughts) and wairua (spirit) of both myself and the person or organisation who has commissioned it.

I work from my home in Tamaki-makau-rau (Auckland), Aotearoa.
